Top tips for creating the perfect wedding invitation

03/02/2010

I met with a couple today who have asked us to design bespoke wedding invitations for their big day (yay!). They weren’t really sure how they wanted the invitations to look or what they should include and were a little worried about this (they felt they would be expected to have a vision and that they had in someway failed for not having an idea)….of course I reassured them that this wasn’t true whatsoever! Plenty of couples we meet don’t have a specific design or style in mind and look to us for inspiration. So I thought it might be useful for those of you currently planning your invitations or trying to decide what to include, to share the questions we’re asking them over the next few days. They’ll help us get a feel for their day and them as a couple building a picture from which we can create something truly unique.

1. About you and your partner. How did you meet? Is there a funny or romantic story behind it, something that you treasure or tell others? What common interests do you have – do you share a hobby, a love of the outdoors or of a particular type of music? Do you have any special songs or poems that mean something to your relationship? When did you get engaged, who proposed to who, where and how did it happen? Any of these answers may provide you with a unique visual aspect to consider including in your invites, from a photograph or hobby related icon to a song lyric  (like Briz and I – we are both Beatles mad so had a small excerpt  from ‘And I love Her’ on the front of ours – I’ll post a pic and more about our wedding theme another time!)

Back tomorrow with more. xx
