Contemporary and informal wedding invitation wording

18/03/2010

There are many reasons why you may wish to choose a more contemporary style of wording for your wedding invitations. You may want to incorporate words of a song or poem or it may be that you want to express a style and theme or use more casual wording for a more informal gathering. When designing your invitations, you can provide the wording that you like, or we can work with you to create a style that suits you (I’m a writer by trade so really enjoy crafting something new and bespoke to our couples).

Briz and I incorporated lyrics from our favourite song (And I love Her by The Beatles). Not only did it reflect our love of the 60s and The Beatles as well as our relationship, but it also beautifully captured that our ceremony was going to be in the evening…..ahhh the memories!).

Below are a few examples that we like for inspiration and suggestions for how to lay out the invitations and what information to include. Simple, short and sweet always works best in our opinion.

Other things to consider:

Rather than stating the obvious “reception to follow,” you might opt for something like: “Food and festivities to follow”, “followed by dinner and dancing” or “and afterwards for fun, food and drinks”.

Consider other wording for reply cards that will suit your style of invitation: perhaps you ask your guests to  “accept with pleasure” or “decline with regret”. Or, they might have the option of checking “we’ll be there to with bells on” or “we are sorry that we can only be there in spirit.”
